Our Filmmaking Anniversary
Today marks 6 years since Ashley and I began the journey of creating and running our company, Pioneer Productions, full-time. We've had the honor of filming some amazing stories from people all over Mississippi (and beyond). This video just scratches the surface. Some incredible people live here, and many more stories are to be told.

On this week in 2017, we took the leap to both work full time on our film and media company, Pioneer Productions! We are very thankful for everyone we’ve worked with and all the stories we’ve gotten to share.
With the release of our new reel, we wanted to share a few thoughts about this process. In the film industry, your reel is like a resume and poses as a very important piece for being hired for new projects. Typically for freelancers like us, reels are made up of short clips of the best shots from all your recent work. For our 2023 Reel, we decided to elevate that vision by including audio soundbites and interviews for the first time. This was partially inspired by a great reel from Paramount we had the opportunity to see when we visited their studio in Los Angeles back in May. It included all of the best lines and shots from their movies but was edited in a way that also showed their storytelling style as well.
Whether it be a wedding, commercial, or documentary, we have developed a distinct storytelling tone that is a common thread to all of our films. Throughout the years we’ve tried to define it, but it’s not easy to put into words because it’s something that happened more naturally than consciously. We believe it to be something like equal parts grit and heartstring tugs with a heaping dash of Mississippi soul. Many of the projects we are part of involve big emotions, people working together, and communities relying on one another like family. We have been really blessed throughout the years; our business is a form of ministry and giving back for us. And in the words of RD, we are just getting started!
